Emirates Launches Flights to Repatriate Argentines from Dubai

Emirates has announced special flights from Dubai to Buenos Aires on March 8 and 9 to repatriate around 1,500 Argentine citizens stranded due to the closure of airspace in the region. The Argentine government has held negotiations with UAE authorities and the airline to secure seats.

The focus has been on commercial and logistical articulation to unblock return routes. The near-total closure of airspace is a response to the Iranian retaliation and the allied offensive, leaving approximately 1,500 citizens of various nationalities stranded only in Dubai. Argentina's strategy has been to discourage uncoordinated land transfers to Oman or Saudi Arabia due to a lack of security guarantees on cross-border routes. The priority of the Ministry of Foreign Relations is to ensure that Argentines in transit (mainly from Israel and Qatar) remain in urban centers with service infrastructure while commercial flight frequencies normalize. The airline Emirates announced that it plans to operate flights to Ezeiza International Airport – via Rio de Janeiro – on March 8 and 9, as part of its reduced flight schedule, which will be used to repatriate Argentines stranded in Dubai due to the conflict. This is possible after the partial reopening of regional airspace, allowing for safe commercial flights, according to sources at the Argentine News Agency (NA). Flights EK0247 will depart from Dubai at 8:05 AM to arrive at Ezeiza at 9:10 PM and return as EK0248 at 11:00 PM. Emirates stated it will continue to gradually restore its flight schedule, subject to airspace availability and compliance with all operational requirements, keeping safety as its top priority. It also warned that, for now, passengers should only go to the airport if they have a confirmed reservation and urged them to check emirates.com and official social media channels for the latest updates. Pablo Quirno had recently stated that they were "working from the consulate and the embassy to position ourselves on the different flights" and recommended waiting in Dubai because they are "working with the airlines that have return flights". The Secretary of Tourism and Environment of the Nation, Daniel Scioli, along with Ambassador Jorge Arambarri, handled direct negotiations with the government of the United Arab Emirates and the airline Emirates to guarantee the necessary seats.
